My Perfect Day in Los Angeles

I wake up in my beautiful room at one of my favorite hotels, the Mondrian Hotel on the world famous Sunset Strip. I open the curtains and take in the view from here is West Hollywood to the Pacific Ocean in the distance. I put on my bathing suit and head to the pool for a refreshing swim and to enjoy the panoramic views of the city.

Totally refreshed, I travel up Sunset Blvd. to enjoy breakfast at Mel’s Diner, made famous in the movie “American Graffiti.” Not the fanciest place to eat in L. A., but they do serve a great breakfast that gives me the get-up-and-go I need to enjoy a full day in the City of the Angels at a price that’s hard to beat.

After breakfast, I cruise over to Beverly Hills and Rodeo Drive for window shopping at the finest shops any city can offer. If I’m lucky, and it’s not too early, I will see some of my favorite movie stars and even get some autographs.

For lunch, I prefer The Ivy restaurant. This is one of THE places to see and be seen in Los Angeles. This restaurant is shabby chic but the food is excellent and the company can’t be beat. I might even get lucky and one of the paparazzi might mistake me for one of the high-powered Hollywood types that frequent this establishment.

Now comes the most difficult choice of the day. I take out my executive decision maker and heads I go west to the Getty Museum while tails takes me toward the city and the La Brea Tar Pits. Great – it’s heads, so off I go to one of the most impressive art collections on the planet. This week I’m lucky and find a featured virtual exhibition of 14 paintings by Rembrandt. I spend the rest of my afternoon browsing the multiple examples of art this incredible museum offers.

Back to the Mondrian for some personal pampering at the Aqua Spa. Nice and relaxed, I take a nap and then get ready for a night on the town. I have dinner right here at the hotel’s fabulous Asia de Cuba restaurant, featuring an innovative fusion menu of nouveau Asian-Latino cuisine and a hot Latin ambiance that is hard to beat anywhere. Being situated on the Sunset Strip allows me a choice of clubs from the world famous Whiskey-a-go-go to the Rainbow Grill or The Key Club. From punk to rock, from jazz to just hanging out, these clubs provide me the perfect end to a perfect day in L.A.
